Hello world!

Hi, its Romy, I would like to share my journey with resin! I started when I was going through a huge crystal and wolf obsession phase, (I still love both but they aren’t my life) but I was looking for wolf stuff on amazon to put on my wish list and I found some wolf crystals that looked pretty, I looked into them and found out it was a mold, a resin mold I started researching amazon, finding molds, the resin itself, supplies and I had wanted to start putting my money together to get some stuff to start making resin, I wanted to make them as gifts, maybe start a small business, and all of that. Eventually I was able to get a frog mold and a lizard mold, two small epoxy resin bottles, dye, stir sticks, gloves, and some reusable cups. I got really excited and started setting everything up on my dining room table, and slapped some cardboard underneath me. I started pouring it and mixing. And I made a cute green and yellow frog, along with a purple and blue lizard. Using almost all the resin I bought. I set them on my counter and waited for the next day to take them out. But the next day came and they didn’t harden at all, same with the next day, and the next. I started to worry that I did something wrong. But my mom asked if I read instructions or did research on how to do it. I did not. I learned that there’s a hardener and the actual resin to mix together. I was very sad because there was only one bottle left and that was the hardener.

But after that my mom bought me two more large jugs of the epoxy resin, and I mixed it together properly, and it came out great! Much better than the last one, but very simple lol.

After this things started running more smoothly. I tried making others. And I bought more molds! I bought a small unicorn and nest mold, mostly for my younger sister. But I also didn’t read the instructions again and I didn’t know that you needed to measure them together. Most epoxy resin needs a 1:1 ratio, unless you buy a more difficult kind. But I didn’t and I had made a cute unicorn, except that one side looked evil lol.

I don’t have a picture of the other side because this was a while ago, but the other side’s eye was smudged all over and looked evil. But because I didn’t use a 1:1 ratio this turned out bendy and slightly squishy and not sellable. And it never hardened up even after at least 4 months. I continued to not measure it and some turned out fine some didn’t. I didn’t know why. But my dad had asked me if I measured and I said no But I started measuring it at a one to one ratio, not knowing that was what it called for but still. I started to make other little resin things and was able to make a Pinterest account.

And it only grew from there, I started doing more research, and trying newer combinations of color, I learned what worked and what didn’t, I learned a lot more about getting rid of bubbles, putting other items in such as flowers and dried plants, and learning about how to make colors look like flowers, my first attempt looked more like fire I think in my opinion, but others have said different. Like a friend of mine said it kind of looked like hair.

I kept on learning more and more, of course I hit a couple bumps and got a bit lazy, but I still have been coming back and making more and more. And I got my own setup in my garage that my dad gave me!

Now much more recent I have been able to sign up for a Christmastime vendor! I will finally have my first shop run, and hopefully be able to sell my finished resin trinkets and decor! And will have a 6 foot table area! At least I think it’s six foot, but I have to check. But it is hard, because this is about a month away and I have a lot to do. I have to plan, make a lot more resin stock, perfect pieces, get more epoxy resin itself, etc. I have been doing my best to try to make resin at least every other day, but I am busy. I have a lot going with friends, events, my own sports, my pets, school, chores, and a lot more. So it is hard to squeeze a bunch of resin stuff in there but I am trying to do it whenever I have free time and when it’s not dark. But another very hard part of this is that I’ve learned that resin dries faster and much easier when its warm. In the summer time since I work in the garage I would be able to pour resin into a mold at around 12-2 o’clock and it would be done by like 6-7. But in the winter, I have to use a heat gun to keep the resin warm, and bring the items inside to dry otherwise they wont dry outside because of how cold it gets. Even inside it takes about 2 days for it to dry, when the average is 1 day. Winter sucks when you get into this stuff.

Recently I have done my Vendor event, and it went amazing! I sold so much and people said I had great customer service. It was so fun, and I was with my mom. We met so many really nice people, and then in February, my charter school had an entrepreneur fair that I participated in and also sold a lot, not as much because it was a lot of kids that didn’t have much money, but still! I went with my dad for that one, which was really cool! It was also fun and I saw some people I knew there. I am now back at work without the in person stuff, working on my website, selling my resin to others, and making gifts for others!
